Skulls have always been an inspiration and have been used by Emma symbolically throughout her career as an artist. Skulls represent life, death, impermanence, defiance, transformation, rebellion against social norms, strength, warrior traditions, immortality and the human experience. They are also a great reminder or memento mori- an object kept as a reminder of the invisibility of death, such as a skull. The origin of the Latin term Memento Mori literally means- 'remember (that you have) to die.'
